Subtle Signs of a Gift? Or Stress?
We all do it. We notice really subtle things. Small things. Things others don’t always pick up on. Maybe, like me, you even look around to see if someone else picked up on it as well.
While it’s true that stress can make us hypersensitive to things we might not normally notice or feel, this ‘picking up on things’ and noticing ’subtle’ things is a bit different…
For example…
~ When sampling a bite of food, do you notice the consistency? The texture? Do you think about, or identify, the ingredients — or that unique flavor?
~ When you’re reading, do miss spelled words seem to leap out at you?
How about incorrect punctuation?
~ When listening to music, can you ‘hear’ when a note is just a smidge off-beat? Do you find yourself identifying each instrument that’s being played?
~ When you’re typing, do you know when you’ve made a typo – before you even look at the screen?
~ When you’re writing, do you know that your wording isn’t ‘quite right’ yet — and back up the train until it’s ‘just so?’
These can all be subtle signs of a gift — or a gift in the making. This week, keep an eye out for these things you ‘notice’ — especially when others don’t appear to notice them. Try to jot down at least one example each day.
(Note: You may find you notice the same thing, over and over again. That’s a serious clue, too.)
Then, pop back here and post one or two of your discoveries in the Comments section below. You’ll be surprised at the variety of items we each notice, individually. ![]()

Yes, my friend. You are pure genius. No foil for you (even though it might seem restful for a while, LOL).
Be sure to let me know what’s on your list. Share the goods, so we can see your genius!
